Thursday storms create 16 new fires in Josephine County
The Oregon Department of Forestry reports 10 new fires were located in Josephine County and six in Jackson County due to Thursday’s thunderstorm.
The largest fire, called the Nine Mile Fire, burned three acres total in the Williams area and was attacked by several 20 person hand-crews, engines and a helicopter.
Most fires were around a tenth of an acre and were contained and extinguished overnight.
Caitlin Goins with the Oregon Department of Forestry says a reconnaissance plane has spotted two additional small smokes this morning and crews are headed to the area.
