Douglas Evacuations Lifted; Containment Date Projected for 9/1/13
All evacuation levels have been lifted in the Douglas Complex of fires with only the BLM roads closed in that area as crews have achieved 78 percent containment on the 48,643 acre blaze. The 1,324 personnel are projecting total containment for September 1st.
Yesterday’s fire activity was described as creeping and smoldering with interior vegetation naturally burning out. Today crews are attacking hot spots near the fire lines that were pinpointed by nighttime infrared flights with the goal of putting those out. Growth potential for the Douglas complex has been downgraded to medium.
The Big Windy, also projected to be totally contained September 1st, is now at 22,798 acres and manned by 1,017 firefighters. It is now listed as 20 percent contained.
The fire had an active surface spread yesterday. Crews today are continuing fire line preparation and burnout operations.
The Labrador fire continues to smolder and remains at 2,023 with 76 personnel continuing to monitor the fire situation in the Oak Flat residential area.
