Firefighters stay busy fighting lightning smokes
Oregon Department of Forestry firefighters are staying busy today knocking down smokes created by lightning strikes last night in the Rogue Valley.
ODF PIO Brian Ballou says the day has been exciting, “But there is no trouble yet.” 300 lightning strikes were reported overnight with the majority of them focused in northeastern Jackson County along the Cascade Range.
Not all the strikes have created fires and Ballou says crews have lined about a dozen small fires thus far and each time some smoke is spotted they move onto the next burn.
A four-acre fire in Butte Falls, the largest of the lightning burns, was doused this morning by fire crews.
Firefighters will continue patrols for smokes throughout the day.
