Firefighters are beginning mop-up on Brimstone Fire
Firefighters today say they aren’t out of the woods yet but they are beginning mop-up on sections of the Brimstone Fire.
Crews have the fire 60 to 75 percent trailed in hand line and several areas are secured with dozer line. Firefighters are also using burnout operations to remove combustible vegetation from areas the fire is encroaching upon.
Oregon Department of Forestry P.I.O. Tom Fields says they plan to have the fire completely lined today, some areas are already in the mop-up stage and they plan to have the entire fire in the mop-up stage within two days.
Crews are progressing so well against the Brimstone Fire that four crews were relocated this morning to assist with the Big Windy Fire.
Fields says, “This is a monumental fire season, it only comes every quarter century.” He added that the public needs to do whatever they can to prevent human caused fires and even this morning he had to send out a crew to extinguish an out of control burn barrel.
