Sheriff’s Office warns of false evacuation notices-UPDATED
The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn the public about a group of individuals who have been seen going door-to-door issuing false evacuation notices to residences that are not in any danger of being evacuated.
If evacuations are ordered, a public safety official, such as a fireman or Sheriff’s deputy, will arrive in an official public safety vehicle to advise residents of their evacuation status. Official evacuation information is also disseminated through local media outlets.
Rumors are also circulating that fire departments are accepting monetary donations, but according to officials at Rural Metro no local departments are accepting monetary donations for the fires. This may be a scam for someone to make money. Any monetary donations should be made to the American Red Cross.
Current evacuations and roadblocks are from Grave Creek Bridge at Galice Road through to the 3100 block of Lower Wolf Creek Road, only fire and law enforcement officials are allowed in this area. From the 3100 block of Lower Wolf Creek Road to the City of Wolf Creek only residents who show proof of residency may enter that area.
