Jackson County Library District Taxes at the Maximum
The Jackson County Library District Thursday unanimously approved 60 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to meet an unexpectedly large financial obligation in its first year.

During the campaign to create the district in the spring, many voters thought they would be charged less than the 60 cents. The Districtís board said the money is needed to pay, in part for 17 months of operation rather than 12.

The basic cost for 12 months is $5.2 million, but Jackson County expects to be repaid for the first five months of operations this fiscal year before property taxes are paid in November. The five month period will cost about $2.2 million.
