Proposed county budget would provide for eight new Sheriff’s Office deputies
The Josephine County Commissioners during their Weekly Business Session today discussed the proposed 2014-15 fiscal year budget that would provide for an additional eight Sheriff’s Office deputies if everything goes as planned.
The budget assumes that the City of Grants Pass will vote positively tonight on a contract with the county for the rental of 28 beds in the Josephine County Jail at a cost of nearly $1 million. This additional funding to the county will allow the Sheriff’s Office to bolster patrol funding by $655,000. The tentative plan is to return all six deputies on layoff to patrols and then hire an additional two full-time deputies.
The commissioners also reviewed the 2013-14 supplemental budget and two major changes from the original budget have been added. The county forestry department required additional seedlings due to the wildfires that ravaged the county last year and the public safety budget was amended due to last year’s jail contract with the city and the allocation of additional Secure Rural Schools funding.
Both budgets will be adopted during the Josephine County Commissioners’ Weekly Business Session on June 25.
