Shot Fired into Ground, Two Jailed in Medford Neighborhood Fight
Shortly before midnight Friday evening, Medford Police responded to a report of a disturbance involving several people in the 1500 block of Bryant Street, with one individual possibly armed.
The first officer on scene heard a shot fired as he arrived. Four of those involved were taken into custody without incident. A .38 caliber revolver was found in the front yard of the residence.
Investigators learned that 21-year-old Jacob Allen Golden, a transient, had started a fight with a number of people including 72-year-old Paul Allen Norris. After he was punched in the face by Golden, Mr. Norris retrieved his firearm and fired a shot into the grass in an attempt to scare Golden.
It was determined that Mr. Norris was not acting in self-defense or in defense of another when he went inside his home and returned, endangering others by firing his revolver into the yard.
Jacob Allen Golden was lodged in Jackson County Jail on charges of Assault in the Fourth Degree and Disorderly Conduct. Paul Allen Norris was lodged as well facing charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
