Police and fire projects divided by Medford City Council
The Medford City Council made a contentious decision Thursday to divide the bidding for two projected projects that will build a new police station and parking garage and three fire stations.

Three councilors said the package needed to be divided from lumping the police station and parking garage together and the three fire stations together. They insisted this would give local construction companies better chances at winning the bids.

Three other councilors and the mayor, who broke the tie, thought too much division amongst the project coordination would lead to unsatisfactory results.

The police headquarters and parking garage is estimated at a cost of $21.6 million and estimates have not been developed for the fire stations.
