Firefighters brave icy conditions to extinguish barn fire
Firefighters with Rural/Metro Fire Department and Applegate Fire District responded to a barn fire at approximately 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at 3859 Winona Road.

Icy conditions made it extremely difficult for fire crews to reach the property and firefighters managed to save a home near the barn that was minutes away from catching fire.

Mike Shaw with Rural/Metro Fire Department says the barn was thankfully mostly empty but the structure, which is valued at approximately $40,000, will likely be considered a total loss. No animals or people were injured during the incident.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire but they believe it is likely accidental.
