Council discusses RFP for soccer complex
The Grants Pass City Council during their Monday workshop discussed a request for proposal for the projected Allen Creek Community Park and Soccer Complex.
The complex would be built on 12 and a half acres of city owned land as well as adjacent school property that would accommodate all local teams and attract soccer tournaments. Community Development Director Michael Black told councilors the project would likely cost millions of dollars and the budget for planning and design is $100,000. Black added the RFP is necessary so soccer enthusiasts can know their goal and begin fundraising. Additionally, Black said grants provided to other cities have paid for 50 to 75 percent of their soccer complexes.
Councilors decided to add the RFP to a future agenda for action.
Assistant City Manager David Reeves also addressed council about six properties that have no use to the city as well as an additional three that may not be useful. Council moved to have the sale of the properties added to a future meeting.
Lastly, the meeting began with the swearing in of Jeff Craven as a new Public Safety officer.
