16 Year-old Skateboarder Injured in Collision with an Automobile

Shortly before 3pm Saturday, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Officers, Fire personnel and medical personnel responded to 911 calls reporting a collision involving a juvenile male and a motor vehicle at the intersection of SE 9th Street and SE L Street.

Emergency Personnel arrived on scene within 3-minutes of the 911 calls. The 16 year-old juvenile was stabilized and transported to Three Rivers Medical Center with what were believed to be serious injuries. Several eyewitnesses provided statements to Police Officers. The on-call Detective also responded to the accident scene.

Statements and evidence confirmed that the juvenile male was riding a skateboard eastbound on SE L Street while using his cell phone and did not stop at the SE 9th Street intersection.
The automobile driver, 84 year-old Soledad Finneran, was traveling southbound on SE 9th and did not see the young skateboarder until he was struck by the front of her vehicle.

It was later reported that the 16 year-old juvenile had been admitted to Three Rivers Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. No citations were issued to Finneran regarding the Motor Vehicle Crash. The male juvenile was cited for Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana.
