Manslaughter charges filed against man who attacked roommate
Manslaughter charges have been filed against a man who attacked his roommate last September.
Medford Police responded to the 2300 block of Howard Avenue on Sept. 15 just after midnight to reports of an assault. Roommates 61-year-old Charles Ward Puzak and 50-year-old John Troy Lopes were outside and witnesses say they were in an altercation when Lopes punched and kicked Puzak in the head and chest multiple times. Puzak was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center with critical head injuries. Authorities say alcohol was a contributing factor to the altercation.
Puzak eventually succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 10 and an autopsy concluded Puzak died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Lopes has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and multiple assault charges and is lodged in the Jackson County Jai.
