Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting Near Gold Hill
Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting Near Gold Hill

A man is lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail after shooting a woman in a Gold Hill-area home. 41 year-old Robert Joseph Simonson is charged with Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Interfering with a Peace Officer, and Tampering with Evidence.

A neighbor in the 1500 block of Rogue River Highway called 911 to report the shooting around 6:30am Friday. Sheriff’s deputies arrived within minutes and attempted to assist the victim, 52 year-old Kimberly Ann Staack. Staack was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Simonson was arrested at the scene.

The investigation determined Simonson fired the single shot that killed Staack. An Autopsy was performed Saturday. The case is being referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
