Halloween bank robber jailed in Central Point
The suspect who decided to rob the Chase Bank located in the Grants Pass Parkway Fred Meyer just before noon on Halloween was captured later in the day by police officers in Central Point.
A release from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety says 42-year-old Jonathan Starbuck Stau entered the bank, displayed a firearm and then fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Investigators determined Stau had fled to the Medford area in a cab and they forwarded information to Medford P.D. who said the Central Point Police had detained a suspect who was trespassing on the Crater High School grounds with a similar description who was carrying a large amount of cash.
Stau was lodged in the Josephine County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery and first-degree theft.
The suspect weapon was not located and anyone who locates a gun near Crater High School or has additional information about the case should contact Public Safety by calling 541-450-6260.
