November Election Imposes Additional County Expense
County Clerk Art Harvey addressed the Board of County Commissioners during the Wednesday Business Session outlining his office’s situation concerning the November election.
In laying out his annual budget the upcoming election was only going to have the city’s public safety levy on it which the city reimburses the county for.
Now, with the addition of the four county referendums to put before the voters, the Clerk’s office will need additional funds to properly execute the election.
Harvey advocated for publishing a flyer with the full text of the ordinances at an estimated cost of $5,000 in lieu of a voter’s pamphlet with an approximated cost of $10,600.
The primary difference between the two is the voter’s pamphlet can publish arguments both for and against for a fee of $400 each. Harvey estimates the difference when considering the fees is $4,000.
This is the first referendum election in the county during Harvey’s 15 years in the clerk’s office.
