Pacific Power warns customers to be weary of scamming phone calls
Pacific Power wants to warn customers about identity thieves who are trying to scam people out of their personal information.
A release from the company states identity thieves have been calling customers in Oregon and Washington and pretend they are customer service agents for Pacific Power. The scammers then say the customer has past due payments and their service is in jeopardy of being disconnected. The caller advises the customer to make a payment either immediately on the phone via credit card, by calling a special number or by going to a local store to purchase a pre-paid card and calling back with the code.
Pacific Power representatives say customers should always verify the legitimacy of the customer service agent by either asking for their account number or by telling the agent they will call them back at the company’s customer service number.
