District 7 School Board Names Wiess South Principal; Contemplates Summer Session & Welcomes Caveman Statue
The District 7 School Board, during its Tuesday noon meeting named Jeff Wiess as the person to succeed the retiring Rene Cardiff as South Middle School Principal this coming July.

The board also heard from staff member Kurt Kolb outlining proposed summer curriculum to include the funding and finding the right teachers and its potential outcome, “This is just the beginning of where we could potentially be in terms of affording more students college credit before leaving Grants Pass High School.”

Superintendent Higgins seems to feel there was adequate funding available.

Carl Rhodes, one of three remaining members of the Caveman Club, owners of the Caveman Statue gracing the Chamber of Commerce lot, offered the statue to school, saying the club had the funds to paint the statue one more time, but would likely not be able to maintain it after this summer’s painting.

The board seemed open to obtaining the statue with different locations for it discussed, the space at the north end of Mel Ingram field just east of flag pole drawing the most attention.

The Superintendent Higgins, at the instruction of the board, will consult with the Manager of the Chamber of Commerce to insure there are no conflicts.
