Peaceful End to Medford SWAT Standoff
A 63 year old Medford man was taken to the Rogue Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation Wednesday afternoon following an almost three hour standoff in the 1400 block of Coquette Street.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 2:29 p.m. for a suicidal war veteran with a history of mental illness, who was reportedly in crisis.

Officers evacuated the adjoining residences including 13 children from a daycare across the street. The children were taken from the scene in the SWAT Team’s armored vehicle.

After unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the man by phone or loud speaker, officers breached a door and deployed a tactical robot who located the man who then began to talk with officers. He was taken into protective custody without further incident at 5:19 p.m.
