Francisco Hernandez-Figueroa, 29, from San Rafael, Mexico and Jaime Eugene Muniz, 28, from Sacramento, were both sentenced to federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. U.S. District Judge in Medford, Owen Panner sentenced Hernandez-Figueroa to 120 months in prison and Muniz to 60 months, their sentences to run concurrently with their remaining terms they received from state court.

The pair, arrested in two separate incidents were carrying methamphetamine that when combined would be worth over $1.4 million.

Within days of their arrest, on the advice of their attorneys, both Hernandez-Figueroa and Muniz demanded to plead guilty and be sentenced in state court before their cases could be reviewed by the U.S. Attorney’s office.

The U.S. Attorney’s office issued a statement saying their office would not be deterred in pursuing cases against drug traffickers who attempt to avoid federal prosecution by racing through state court.
