23-year-old Anthony Harrell, 1701 Northeast Fairview, is in jail this morning after allegedly snatching a purse from a 57-year-old woman who was waiting for a bus at Northeast Beacon and Fairview Wednesday afternoon.

According to witnesses Harrell knocked the victim down and ran away. Some citizens assisted the woman while others followed Harrell to an apartment in the area and stood by while waiting for police.

Police surrounded the complex and took Harrell into custody without incident and lodged him in the county jail on charges of robbery I, theft II, tampering with evidence, and a probation violation.

The woman’s purse was recovered plus marijuana and other stolen property.
