Missing Couple Located Safe after Page Mountain Search
At 11:11 p.m. Friday night Sheriff Gilbertson authorized the search and rescue snow team to respond to the report of a couple missing from the Page Mountain Snow Park. The couple had gone snowshoeing with their two basset hounds and were last seen at 1:30 that afternoon.
Six members of the snow team and a Forest Service employee deployed with search and rescue’s snow cat and tracked ATV’s in 20 degree temperatures. After an hour and fifteen minutes the couple and their dogs were located, cold and damp, but otherwise in good health.
The couple had intended to be gone for a couple of hours and only had water and a couple of lighters with them. They missed a marker and went down an unmarked forest service road, traveling about six miles in both Oregon and California before being located.
