KAJO/KLDR feature Cold Case solved
One of KAJO/KLDR’s featured Missing Person Cold Case Files has finally been solved.
The remains of 46-year-old Rachel Louise Rice were found by a gold miner last Saturday in the 3000 block of Old Military Road in Central Point in a steep wooded area that could only be reached by foot.
Rice’s friend Carrie Haskett was the last person to see her alive on Aug. 3, 2005, at Haskett’s residence on Old Stage Road. Rice, who suffered from schizophrenia, arrived at the residence and appeared dirty and confused and requested a ride to her father’s home on Snowy Butte Lane but Haskett said she was too busy and Rice left on foot. Her remains were found just a few miles away from Haskett’s house.
Rice had recently stopped taking her medications before her disappearance and was known to walk long distances when she became disoriented. The day before Rice’s disappearance, her daughter said her mother had told her she had removed four teeth as directed by unspecified voices. Despite her daughter’s plea for help, Rice refused treatment.
