New County Commissioners Cherryl Walker and Keith Heck have had their first day on the job and both have determined what their primary focus is as they step into these positions.

Commissioner Walker says the proposed law enforcement district for the county would be her first focus. “I look forward to working with Keith and Simon on the commission. I think the first thing on our agenda, which the commissioners passed in December, was to work on the hearings for the criminal justice system. So we’ll be working on that, doing our homework and working really hard,” Walker said.

Commissioner Heck believes stabilizing county funding is the number one priority. “The serious matter is obviously the economy and finances. There is no solution that is going to be presented in the first 24 hours,” Heck said.

Heck says the solutions to improve county funding include taxation, learning to live with current services, cut expenses or generate additional revenue. He says the levy proposed by the law enforcement district seems the most sensible solution.
