A woman died Monday evening after being hit by an alleged drunk driver on Redwood Highway at milepost 25.

An Oregon State Police incident log states that at approximately 6:00 p.m. 24-year-old Ruark A. Miller of Cave Junction was driving his 2004 Subaru Legacy southbound on the highway when, according to witnesses, he began swerving, crossed the centerline and struck a 1984 Dodge pickup that was headed northbound head on.

A passenger in the pickup, 68-year-old Joyce E. Willson, was critically injured and during a life flight to River Bend Hospital in Eugene she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the pickup, 48-year-old David A. Wonderling, and a passenger in the truck, 12-year-old Kaitlyn Smith, were transported to the hospital where they were treated and released.

Miller was admitted to the hospital and troopers have charged him with second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving while suspended and criminal mischief.
