Humane Society denies county's proposal to run Animal Shelter

The Rogue Valley Humane Society has denied the county’s proposal that would have allowed the society to take control of the Josephine County Animal Shelter.

The Animal Shelter, which has lost a large portion of its funding from the county, has been looking for a private agency to take over adoption operations.

The Humane Society says the shelter wants the private organization to evaluate and designate which animals are to be euthanized and this practice does not mesh with the morals of the society.

Humane Society representatives also say that since budget cuts have affected the shelter the Humane Society Shelter has been inundated with animals because citizens do not want to bring their pets to the county shelter.
