Man convicted of two shootings blames drugs for his actions
A man sentenced today in Jackson County blames his drug use for his actions during two shootings earlier this year.
Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia sentenced 23-year-old Russell Wayne Sewell to 89 months in prison for felon in possession of firearm, second-degree assault and two counts of attempted first-degree assault.
Sewell was arguing with Cascade Christian High School students and fired a .22-caliber round at their vehicle, striking it in the trunk, on May 21. When police were investigating the incident they discovered Sewell had been involved in a robbery where a Medford man was shot in the foot during a home invasion on May 18.
