Unemployment Slightly Lower Over the Year.
The Josephine County Unemployment rate is eight tenths of point lower than last year with the seasonally adjusted rate for June at 11.3 percent compared to 12.1 percent last year.
The county’s total payroll employment grew by 250 jobs in June with leisure and hospitality posting the largest gain, up 150 jobs over May. Construction rose by 30 jobs over the month but is flat for the year. Retail trade added 40 jobs while both transportation, warehousing, and utilities and professional and business services gained 20 jobs. Others services added 40,
Manufacturing jobs fell by 20 and wood products dropped another 30 positions. Private educational services lost 20 jobs in June. Government employment had a net estimated gain of 10 jobs over the month. Increases of 30 in both state and federal government were offset by a loss of 50 in local government education.
