80 Positions to be Eliminated from SOU by 2018
The equivalent of more than 80 positions will be eliminated at Southern Oregon University through layoffs and retirement by 2018 according to the final retrenchment plan released yesterday.

The University will save $6.1 million per year once the retrenchment is complete

Mt. Ashland Wraps Disastrous Season
With less than a foot of snow at the base, Mt. Ashland has given up any hope of opening this season. Officials made the announcement Friday after suffering the worst snowfall season since snow surveys began in 1963.

Suspect in Medford’s Officer Involved Shooting Released from Hospital
Shavon Williard, 31, who was involved in the shootout with Medford law enforcement officials March 6th was released from the hospital and lodged in the Jackson County Jail for an arrest warrant out of Idaho. She is being held on $75,000 bail.

City Week in Review
The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety answered 999 emergency calls and 578 non-emergent calls last week that proved to be busy for all departments. Fire and rescue responded to 69 service calls, 15 fire calls plus 45 emergency calls and six traffic crashes.

Two Highway Crashes Involve Horses on Roadway
The Oregon State Police report that early Thursday morning, a 43-year-ol Grants Pass man was driving his 2006 Dodge pickup east on Highway 58 near milepost two when he encountered several horses in the eastbound lane. Unable to avoid the horses, he collided into at least two of them before the pickup came to rest on the side of the road. The two horses were then struck by a Peterbilt log truck driven by a Eugene man.

Medford Revokes Business License Prematurely
The city of Medford says it has moved too quickly against a medical marijuana dispensary. The City Council last week voted to revoke the business license of a pot operation called Mary Jane's Attic and Mary Jane's Basement.

Knights Beat Hornets; Play for 4th Saturday
The fourth time was a charm for the North Valley Knights playing their conference nemesis Henley Hornets in the Boys 4A state tournament. The Hornets had defeated the Knights 3 times so far this year but this morning it was the Knights turn and they posted a 61 to 55 victory.

Thursday Sheriff’s Office incidents
A male subject in his 30’s who assaulted a woman and committed other property damage was arrested on charges of second-degree assault and second-degree robbery in the 18,000 block of Redwood Highway.
