Drought Disaster Declared by Jackson County
The snowpack in the Rogue Basin is at 31 percent of normal prompting the Jackson County Commissioners yesterday to declare a local drought disaster and ask the state for an emergency declaration to help free up resources for industries suffering from the effects of a dry winter.

Murdered Victims found on Monica’s Ranch Shot in the Head
Prosecutors say the owner of a ranch in rural Rogue River on West Evans Creek Road where the remains of two people were found, had shot both victims in the head.

The revelation came Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court in Medford, where 65-year-old Susan Monica was asking a judge to grant bail. Judge Tim Barnack denied the request.

Commissioners Hear Community Libraries are Good Investment
Josephine Community Libraries Executive Director Kate Lasky reported to the County Commissioners during the Weekly Business Session Wednesday morning. The County annually designates 10 percent of Economic Development Funds from the state to the libraries, about $35,000. Ms. Lasky told Commissioners the Library had been able to leverage those dollars to gain grants to make the return on investment 2 to 1.

Accused Multiple Killer To Appear at Bail Hearing
Susan Monica, the 65-year-old woman accused of a double murder on her rural Rogue River farm is due in court today for a bail hearing.

Defense attorney Christine Herbert says she is prepared to make the arguments Monica wants in hopes that her no-bail status will change.
