18-Year-Old Driver Cited after Causing Collision with School Bus
Two people received minor injuries Wednesday afternoon in a collision involving two vehicles and a school bus stopped to unload youngsters on Highway 238 north of Jacksonville. None of the school bus occupants were injured and the at-fault driver was cited by Oregon State Police.
At approximately 4:42 p.m., a school bus was stopped on Highway 238 near milepost 35 to let children off. A 2010 Toyota Camry driven by a 48-year old female was stopped behind the school bus when it was struck from behind by a Nissan Altima driven by Elizibeth Devaughn, 18, from Medford, that was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop. The impact pushed the Toyota into the back of the stopped bus, causing very minor damage to the rear bumper.
The Toyota's driver and Devaughn received minor injuries and were transported by ground ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.
Initial investigation by Troopers led to Devaughn being cited for Careless Driving.
The highway was blocked about one hour at the crash scene.
