Hatchet attacker sentenced to prison time
A woman who used a hatchet to attack two men was sentenced today by Judge Pat Wolke to 70 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections.
52-year-old Rhonda Lee Porter was arrested in mid-June after she attacked two men in the 100 block of W. Watkins Street in Cave Junction. Porter tried to grab then 52-year-old Stephen Evansí backpack and when he refused she struck him with a hatchet. 55-year-old Michael Parrington then intervened and he was slashed across the back of the head with Porterís hatchet.
Parrington was treated and released from Three Rivers Medical Center for his injuries.
Porterís attorney, Deborah Cumming, said Porter is an alcoholic and she didnít remember committing these acts.
Porter pled guilty previously to two counts of second-degree assault.
