The Josephine County Search and Rescue Dive team recovered the body of 7-year-old Dakota Vincent this morning at about 8:20. The body was found about 50 feet downstream from the Parkway Bridge.
At 9:08 last night officers and Fire Rescue personnel with the Department of Public Safety were dispatched to Baker Park just east of the Parkway Bridge. Several 911 calls reported two children and a woman had gone under water and efforts were being made to save them.
First responders found the woman along with her 5-year-old sister were being tended to after being rescued by bystanders. Seven year old Dakota was still missing and last seen in the water.
Several officers, Fire Rescue personnel from both Grants Pass and Rural Metro along with AMR responded to the initial call and scoured the river and river banks in an effort to locate the missing child. They were unable to locate the juvenile.
Josephine County Search and Rescue was activated, along with a marine Deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The marine deputy and Sheriff Gilbertson responded to Baker Park and assisted with the search.
The Josephine County Search and Rescue Dive Team along with two rescue boats responded and continued the search efforts this morning.
