Kane Creek Drainage fire south of Gold Hill contained by firefighters
A fire in the Kane Creek Drainage six miles south of Gold Hill and roughly two miles northeast of Timber Mountain was contained to two acres today by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
The fire was first reported at 6:00 a.m. and three engines and a helicopter from the ODF Medford Office had the fire waterlined within a couple of hours. Two hand-crews and a water tender arrived on scene shortly after the area was waterlined to dig fireline.
A 20-person crew and an engine from Jackson County Community Justice will remain on the scene to complete mop-up throughout the day.
Investigators believe the fire was lightning caused from last week’s thunderstorms.
