Sheriff’s Opponent Fired From Jackson County Jail
Bob Sergi, a Lieutenant who was the night supervisor at the Jackson County Jail, was terminated earlier this week. Sergi ran an unsuccessful campaign for the Sheriff’s position against incumbent Mike Winters in the May primary.
Sergi was investigated by the Oregon Department of Justice for alleged illegal solicitation of campaign funds. The investigation was dropped because of insufficient evidence. He had been placed on administrative leave April 1st. As is the Deparment’s policy, no reason was given for the termination.
Sergi finished last in the three way race for Sheriff, garnering 24 percent of the vote. Sheriff Winters and Deputy Chief of the Ashland Police Department will meet in a runoff in November for the position.
