Ashland Council Begins Outline of Pot Dispensary Rules
The Ashland City Council is laying out preliminary rules for medical marijuana dispensaries while a temporary moratorium is in place.
The council has agreed dispensaries may locate along sections of major streets as well as more out of the way locations as long as they are at least 200 feet from residential zones and have conditional use permits.
The planning commission justified the location of dispensaries on major streets because they can handle heavy traffic and the high volume of people would provide natural surveillance, deterring crime.
State law already imposes numerous regulations on dispensaries including they have security systems and not be located within 1,000 feet of schools, or each other.
The council began the work of establishing dispensary regulations last week and will continue at a July 1st meeting in Council Chambers beginning at 7 p.m.
