Chancellor Names Interim President for SOU
The Oregon University System says Roy Saigo (SIGH-go) has been named interim president of Southern Oregon University. He replaces Mary Cullinan, who resigned to become president at Eastern Washington University.
Saigo was president of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota from 2000 to 2007, and has more recently been a consultant.
He's being touted as turnaround expert who will help the Ashland university implement a retrenchment plan that was forced by budget woes.
Chancellor Melody Rose said Friday that Saigo is "entrepreneurial" and can unite the campus while tackling enrollment and affordability issues.
The incoming president has Oregon ties. He got a Ph.D. in botany and plant pathology from Oregon State University. His wife is a scientist with degrees from Willamette University and Oregon State.
