Pedestrian Enforcement Operation Nets 69 Citations & Raises Awarness
The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety conducted a pedestrian enforcement operation last Friday from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. near the intersection of southeast “M” Street and southeast 8th.
During that operation, officers issued 69 citations. 46 citations were issued to drivers who failed to stop for a pedestrian who was in the crosswalk. Five additional drivers were issued citations for not wearing seatbelts. One driver was issued citations for careless driving and following too close after causing a 3-car crash when his attention was focused on his ringing cell phone. An additional 16 citations were issued for miscellaneous violations.
The operation was funded by a grant from Oregon Impact. Enough funding was received from the organization to fund two additional pedestrian safety enforcement operations. Oregon Impact’s mission is to end impaired and distracted driving in Oregon.
