Alleged arsonist arrested for setting Highland Avenue mobile home fire
The Oregon State Police arrested an alleged arsonist at roughly 9:22 p.m. Thursday for setting a mobile home on fire at 3955 Highland Ave.
Rural/Metro Fire Department responded to the scene with two engines, two tenders, one rescue unit and 13 firefighters who managed to knock down the blaze in approximately 15 minutes. Investigators were told that the home had up to 10 people living there with two to five people sleeping in one room at a time. Children ages one to 13 were also present.
Troopers arrested 44-year-old Darrell Butchko at the scene due to eyewitness reports and his suspicious behavior which gave probable cause for the arrest. Butchko is lodged in the Josephine County Jail on charges of first-degree arson, possession of meth, fourth-degree assault and four counts of recklessly endangering.
The home received extensive damage to three separate rooms. No one was injured during the incident.
