Ashland home saved from grassfire due to defensible space
Defensible space around an Ashland home in the 100 block of Pompadour Drive saved the residence from burning at approximately 2:15 p.m. Monday.
Fire crews responded from the Oregon Department of Forestry, Ashland Fire & Rescue and Jackson County Fire District No. 5 to extinguish the roughly 13 acre grassfire.
Fire investigators say the homeowner prevented his home from burning by having dry grass around the property mowed down and by having fire resistant plants around the residence.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but investigators believe an electric fence may have sparked the blaze.
