Council Awards Travel, Tourism & Marketing Contract to Media Makers
On a 4 to 1 vote the Grants Pass City Council authorized the City Manager to enter into a contract with Media Makers for travel, tourism, downtown marketing and public relations services.
The resolution drew significant citizen comment with the majority of speakers pointing out many agencies here in the Rogue Valley with impressive client lists were unaware of the request for proposal that was issued March 4th with a respond date of April 17th.
There were four responses, all from within Grants Pass, with three judged to be valid. In addition to Media Makers, owed by Jon Bowen, Apple Box Marketing and Media, owned by Jess Webb, and the Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce. Several citizens urged the council to accept the Chamberís proposal that would partner with a full service agency.
Councilors questioned whether the normal notice of the RFP had been conducted and were assured normal procedures had been followed and chose to accept the recommendations of the tourism committee.
Jim Williams cast the lone dissenting vote while Dan DeYoung, Jim Goodwin, Ken Hannum and Dennis Webber voted for the resolution.
Lily Morgan, Mark Gatlin, and Rick Riker were absent.
The same four to one vote also passed the resolution adopting the urban growth boundary as proposed to mirror a similar resolution the Board of County Commissioners will vote on May 28th.
