Safety Belt Campaign Successful
Monday the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Traffic Team conducted a traffic safety operation in the downtown area of Grants Pass. This operation focused on enforcement in the areas of the proper use of seat belts/safety restraints, and cell phone use while driving.
Five officers worked the operation utilizing two motorcycles, one unmarked police vehicle, and two marked patrol vehicles. Officers focused on the area of SE 6th St/SE H St, and remained active during these four hours. During the operation 67 citations were issued, 32 seatbelt violations, 13 cell phone violations, 22 various other violations, 2 criminal arrests and
Numerous warnings given.
This operation was funded through a grant provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation, and is one of several state and federally funded traffic safety operations being conducted by GPDPS this year.
