Employment on the Rise in Josephine County
Josephine County total payroll employment rose by 210 jobs in April. Leisure and hospitality accounted for the largest share of the monthís gain, up by 90 jobs. Manufacturing continues to be an area of recent job growth, adding another 40 jobs over the month, 10 of those in wood products. Construction added 20 jobs in April, but continues to show essentially flat employment change over the year.
Slight job gains were estimated in health care and social assistance and other services. Government employment was unchanged over the month. Aprilís data show 10 jobs added in both federal and state government, while local government declined by 20.
The seasonally adjusted rate in April was 9.7 percent, down from 11.2 percent in April 2013.
Total payroll employment rose by 170 from April 2013 to April 2014. Manufacturing had the largest over the year increase, gaining 170 jobs, 40 of those in wood product manufacturing. Increases were also estimated in ambulatory health care services.
