Bail reduced for mom accused of having unnecessary surgeries performed on her children
A Grants Pass woman accused of fooling doctors into performing unnecessary surgeries on her children has had her bail cut by nearly 70 percent.
Multnomah County Judge Eric Bloch on Wednesday reduced Katherine Parker's bail from $1.2 million to just under $400,000. Defense attorney Jon Martz said it's still too much for his client to pay, and she will likely remain in jail until trial.
The 44-year-old mother of eight was arrested April 3 on charges of first-degree assault, first-degree criminal mistreatment and other crimes. An indictment alleges the Grants Pass woman medically abused a son, now 8 years old, and two daughters, ages 4 and 6.
Parker pleaded not guilty at a hearing last month. Her trial has not been scheduled.
