Britt’s New Music Director Announces 2014 Classical Festival
Britt’s incoming Music Director and Conductor Teddy Abrams has announced the 2014 Classical Festival, coming to Jacksonville for three weeks this August. This will be Abrams’ first season as Music Director.
Abrams refers to the the Britt Orchestra as “a spectacular and world-class group of musicians, and it is a tremendous honor to be this organization’s Music Director.”
The Classical Festival features seven orchestral concerts with highlights including: Opening Night with a new piece written by Maestro Adams especially for the occasion, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony and Mahler’s First Symphony, a new banjo concerto written and performed by virtuoso Bela Fleck, vocalist Storm Large performing the “Seven Deadly Sins” with the Orchestra and a Symphony Pops concert featuring the innovative trio Time for Three.
The Britt Orchestra first performed in 1963. More than fifty years later, the 2014 Classical Festival orchestra is a high-caliber ensemble that draws 90 musicians from top orchestras across the country.
