Two Men Burned & 12-Year-Old Girl Injured in Hash Oil Explosion
Two men have been flown to Legacy Emanuel Burn Center in Portland and a 12-year-old girl is being treated for broken bones at Rogue Regional Medical Center following what police term a hash oil explosion.
Authorities responded to an apartment at 645 Royal Avenue in Medford Monday night at 10:29 for the report of an explosion and found one 27-year-old man in the parking lot with significant burns and the girl. A third man, 34-years-old, ran to Providence Hospital on his own and was being treated for burns. The two men were later flown to Portland.
The investigation revealed five people were inside the residence at the time of the explosion. A 48-year-old female and a 37-year-old man present at the time were not injured.
Evidence suggests the parties were making hash oil using large amounts of butane fuel, which ignited. The 12-year-old jumped from the 2nd story balcony to escape and sustained the broken bones when she hit the ground.
Criminal charges will be evaluated upon completion of the investigation.
