Bryan Robert Thompson, 35, a Grants Pass transient, is being held in the county jail on a mental health warrant and a 2nd degree disorderly conduct charge after reporting for a hearing at the county courthouse wearing camouflage clothing, a black mask and carrying two large black bags.
At 8:01 this morning Grants Pass police officers located Thompson outside the courthouse and determined he was wearing a ballistic vest carrier which contained two magazines later determined to be for an airsoft rifle. He was also carrying a rifle case that contained an airsoft rifle similar in appearance to an AR-15, and an airsoft pistol patterned after a Beretta 92F style handgun.
Thompson was detained, the ballistic carrier and weapons were taken for safe keeping and Thompson was escorted to his court hearing.
At the hearing’s conclusion Thompson was placed in custody for a mental health warrant signed by the judge at the hearing and taken to Three Rivers Hospital for evaluation. Thompson escaped from the hospital and fled on foot to a nearby beauty salon for a haircut where officers found him exiting and captured him after a short foot pursuit.
He is now being held in the county jail where he will be evaluated by mental health officials.
