Today at about 12:15 p.m. detectives with the Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division arrested Donald Easley, 64, at his home and charged him with murder and the unlawful use of a firearm.
The charges came about in connection with a shooting involving two neighboring property residents in the 23000 block of Redwood Highway in Kerby that left 59-year-old Leron Justin Estes dead.
The preliminary investigation indicated Easley and his neighbor, Estes, were involved in an ongoing dispute. Easley fired at least one shot from a handgun at Estes killing him.
Easley has been lodged in the Josephine County Jail where he’ll be held pending an arraignment tentatively scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Josephine County Circuit Court.
Easley was exonerated by a Grand Jury in February of 2010 for the shooting death of Kenneth Vaughn in November of 2009. The Grand Jury concluded Easley was justified in using deadly force to defend himself in that incident.
