Thirty Percent Containment on Big Windy
The Big Windy fire grew with an active surface spread and has now consumed 22,537 acres, however, the 976 firefighters have achieved 30 percent containment around the fire’s perimeter. The estimated containment date is now projected for September 7th.
Burnout operations are slated to continue today weather permitting and crews will continue to reinforce fire lines and construct new ones.
The Douglas complex is now estimated at 83 percent contained with 1,145 firefighters still attacking the 48,643 acre burn.
The Labrador fire continues to smolder and is being attacked primarily through the air because it is burning in an inaccessible area. It remains at 2,023 acres and is being monitored by 53 firefighters.
