Fires along Josephine border in Douglas County continue to rage
Two fires along the Josephine County northern border in the Cow Creek area are now estimated at over 500 acres but most other fires started by Thursday night’s lightning strikes have been doused by fire crews.
40 other fires are burning in Douglas County and fire crews are establishing a base at Glendale High School.
Other fires include an over 20 acre fire in the Big Windy drainage south of the Rogue River, and the Whiskey Fire and the Buckeye Fire in the Umpqua National Forest.
Hot shot crews, hand crews and air support are rushing to southern Oregon from all outlying areas to bring the blazes under control.
Firefighters say lower temperatures today should help with the firefighting efforts.
